Privacy policy
Updated November 4, 2026
Mark My Row is a row counter and project notebook for crochet and knitting. This page says what the app collects, where it goes, and how to delete it. Questions go to [email protected].
The short version
- Your projects stay on your iPhone unless you create an account.
- An account backs them up so a second device can stay in step.
- The pattern import sends the pattern you choose to Anthropic, which reads it and sends back the steps. We keep no copy.
- Usage counts are sent only if you say yes. Crash reports never carry your name, email or account.
- No ads. We don't sell your data or track you across other companies' apps and websites.
- You can delete your account, and everything stored with it, from the app.
On your iPhone
Everything you make in Mark My Row (projects, counters, patterns and their PDFs, yarn, photos, journal entries, timers and reminders) is kept on your iPhone. You can use the app without an account. Nothing leaves the phone then, except what is described under Purchases, Usage data and Crash reports below. (The pattern import needs an account.)
Your account
If you create an account, we store:
- your email address (with Apple, possibly a private relay address Apple gives you) and, if you sign in with Apple or Google, the identifier it gives us;
- your password, only as a one-way hash that we cannot read;
- the name you are greeted by: the one you enter, or the name Apple or Google shares when you first sign in with them;
- a copy of everything listed under On your iPhone, so it is backed up and can sync to another device;
- whether you have Pro, and until when, copied from RevenueCat so our server can apply the import limits.
It is stored with Supabase, our database and file host, in the United States. Only your account can read it.
The emails your account needs (confirming your address, resetting your password) are sent through Resend, our email provider, in the United States. It receives your email address and the message, nothing else.
Pattern import
When you import a pattern, the app sends the PDF, the photos of its pages or the text you paste to our server, which passes it to Anthropic's Claude to read the steps. Before your first import on this phone the app names Anthropic and asks for your permission. Anthropic handles the pattern under its commercial terms, which do not let it train its models on it, and may keep it for a limited time to check for misuse (see Anthropic's privacy policy). The import keeps no copy of the pattern or of the steps it read; the steps you save are backed up with your account like the rest of your projects. Our server keeps a record of each import (the date, the kind of source, the number of pages, the model, the tokens it used and its cost, and whether it worked) to apply the free and Pro limits. Import only patterns you own.
Purchases
Mark My Row Pro is sold through Apple, which handles the payment; we never see your card. RevenueCat, our subscription service, receives your purchase history and your account's identifier (an anonymous identifier if you are not signed in), so the app knows you have Pro.
Usage data
If you say yes (the app asks once, and Settings → Privacy changes it at any time), the app sends counts of how it is used to PostHog, our analytics service, in the United States. Examples are how many rows were counted, which tools were opened, and whether an import worked. These counts never include names, notes, patterns, photos or anything you type. Once you sign in, they are tied to your account's identifier. Each count also carries the app version, the iPhone model and iOS version, and your language and time zone. Your location is not recorded. Unless you say yes, the app's only contact with PostHog is a request for PostHog's own settings, made at launch whether you say yes or no, which carries the app's project key and your network address but nothing about you or your use.
Crash reports
When the app crashes, it sends a report to Sentry. It carries no name, email or account identifier: the error, the app version, the iPhone model and iOS version, your language and time zone.
What we don't do
No advertising, no selling or renting your data, no tracking across other companies' apps and websites, and no data brokers.
Deleting your account
Settings → Account → Delete account removes your account from our server: every project, photo, PDF and other item stored with it. Then it clears them from your iPhone. The records of your pattern imports (page counts and cost, never the pattern) lose their link to you and are deleted after 30 days; until then they count toward the daily limit on free imports. If you signed in with Apple, it also asks Apple to revoke Mark My Row's access to your Apple ID, when the iPhone you delete from is signed in to that same Apple ID; otherwise you can end that access yourself in your Apple Account settings, under Sign in with Apple. It also deletes your record at RevenueCat.
Usage counts already sent to PostHog stay there, tied only to a random identifier that can no longer be traced to you. To have them removed too, email us from your account's address before you delete the account.
Deleting the account does not cancel a Pro subscription. Apple bills it until you cancel it in your Apple account's subscriptions.
Exporting your data
Settings → Tools → Export your data saves your projects, counters and their history, patterns and steps, yarn, journal, timers and reminders as one JSON file (photos and PDFs are not included, only their details). With Pro, projects, counters and yarn also export as CSV spreadsheets.
Children
Mark My Row is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information.
Changes
